The Shadowy World of Still Lifes (Pencil)

Instructor: Tomoko Okada

The focus in this 1-day class is on the versatility of the pencil as a drawing tool: what effects are produced by different pencil techniques and the lines they create when rendering light and shadow? What parts do the light and shadow play in the overall composition? More advanced students can tackle the added challenge of working with colored pencils.

The Shadowy World of Still Lifes (Tansai Sumi) Instructor: Tomoko Okada

Tansai literally means "lightly colored" (20% of color pencil + 80% of light watercolor). Students will first render a detailed pencil underdrawing, over which color will be applied to add depth, volume and focus. The goal of this 1-day class is learning to use, control, and take full advantage of the fluid and transparent qualities of watercolor.

Live Model Figure Drawing

Instructor: Tomoko Okada

The RB Drawing Workshop showed you how to REALLY see the different parts of the face, this level II workshop focuses on putting the pieces together. Students will feel how the muscles move, the weight of the body's volume, the interrelationship of bones, joints and tendons as they work from a live model. How do the parts fit? How is mass defined by light and shadow? How does the male body differ from the female's?

Time: 9:30-17:00
Fee: 15,000yen
